Pink Bowls Day a Huge Success
2009 PINK BOWLS DAY A SUCCESS
Over 250 clubs have taken part in the first ever National Pink Bowls Day to raise funds for the McGrath Foundation's breast cancer nurses.
As at the 24th November, the total funds raised stands at $140,000 with a number of clubs still to complete their pink day. In addition to this, we at BCiB have been donating $10 per client since the beginning of the year and many clients have been matching this donation, with a total of $7,000 donated as at the end of October.
Here are some of the stories from the Pink Bowls Day:
Palmwoods Bowls Club in Queensland painted their green pink, with a local store donating the paint and the club raising over $2,000
West Launceston in Tasmania had pink bread donated by the local baker and did very well in raising nearly $400
Dunedoo Bowling Club in NSW had a fantastic day in an area that is affected by drought. The local radio station got involved and the result was hilarious. One bloke played bowls in a pink bikini while the other painted his horse red and rode it to town wearing a kilt. The weather turned wet and miserable part way through the day but that didn't deter the enthusiastic gathering of 88 members and guests who went on to raise $4,000!!!
Canungra Bowls Club in Queensland also had pink morning tea and the support of local businesses. The club house was decorated in pink throughout and the 32 bowlers who attended had a great time, raising over $1,300
Chermside Bowls Club in Queensland also had a fantastic day with a live band and a huge raffle, the end result being over $2,000 raised.
Sheffield Bowls Club in Tasmania held their day to coincide with the Melbourne Cup, thus ensuring a good turn out at the club. With just under 60 members, this little club held a number of activities throughout the day to raise over $900. Well done!
Padstow Bowling Club in NSW was inundated with rain but this didn't stop the determined members and guests from having a great time. Even though the bowls was a washout, a live band and lots of indoor activities kept the members and guests entertained with the end result being a whopping $6,000 raised.
Wiseman Park Wollongong City Bowling Club was not to be deterred by the wet weather either with it's loyal band of members turning up in all manner of pink attire to support the day. A few of the BCiB staff were in attendance and can attest to the great enthusiasm of the club, which also raised a whopping $6,000!
South Burnie Bowls Club in Tasmania let fly 43 pink balloons, in recognition of the age at which Jane McGrath died of breast cancer, with the balloons representing women in the future being free of breast cancer. The club raised $1,500.
